Connections Make it Stick!
Literacy Logic focuses on making connections to the readings in each Pathway - and for good reason! Making connections to reading is crucial from comprehension because it facilitates the transfer of learning and helps students engage with the text on a deeper level to have a more comprehensive understanding of what they are reading.
Prior Knowledge: Making connections helps readers activate their prior knowledge - the foundation in which new knowledge is built. When readers connect what they read which what they already know, they create a framework for understanding the text
Relating to the text: When readers connect the text to their own experiences, emotions, or values it becomes more meaningful and relevant. This personal connection promotes active reading and deeper levels of comprehension.
Transfer of Learning Making connections helps facilitate the transfer of learning from one context to another. This ability to transfer skills to new situations promotes a more robust understanding of what they read and comprehend.
